McCall announced today as sole finalist for Texas State University System Chancellor

Brian McCall was announced today as the sole finalist for the Texas State University System Chancellor.  State Representative Brian McCall (R-Plano) will replace Charles Matthews, who retired earlier this year.

Texas Monthly named him one of the “10 Best  Legislators” and heralded his efforts as Chairman of the Calendars Committee in “demolish[ing] the authoritarian, partisan model for the speakership…and replac[ing] it with one that was based on fairness rather than fear, on shifting power from the Speaker’s office back to the membership.”

In his farewell letter announcing his decision not to run for reelection, McCall bestows part of his mantra that hopefully will continue to drive his focus as Chancellor: “Always have a respect for, and a willingness to defend, the process.”

The Texas State University System includes the following institutions: Lamar University, Sam Houston State University, Sul Ross State University, Sul Ross State University Rio Grande College, Texas State University in San Marcos, Lamar Institute of Technology, Lamar State College in Orange, Lamar State College in Port Arthur.
