UT System, AAUP Disagree About Galveston Firings

University of Texas System staff is considering advisory committee suggestions regarding increased faculty participation during situations of financial exigency.

The American Association of University Professors has been critical of the  System’s response to Hurricane Ike in Galveston, during which tenured faculty members were released without organized faculty input on the decision to declare financial exigency.  Further, the AAUP declared that insufficient effort was made to find other suitable positions either within the medical branch or other System institutions, as well as in Galveston when hiring resumed.
