TACT Names Representative Craig Eiland as Legislator of the Year

The TACT Board is pleased to name State Representative Craig Eiland (D-Galveston) as TACT’s Legislator of the Year for his leadership during the 81st Legislative Session. Rep. Eiland has been invited to accept this honor at the TACT Fall Conference October 23 and 24 in Austin and has been asked to provide the keynote address on Friday evening.

“Representative Eiland’s untiring efforts to rebuild a broken city, in-part through his work to restore Galveston's institutions of higher education severely damaged by the storm, speaks to his commitment to the future of our students, faculty and state,” said TACT President Dr. Gary Coulton.

Appointed to the position of Speaker Pro Tempore, Rep. Eiland is an authority on insurance issues, serving as a member of the Committee on Insurance. He also chaired the Hurricane Subcommittee as a member of the Appropriations Committee, member of Stimulus Subcommittee and Health and Human Services Committee. With a strong commitment to Hurricane Ike recovery efforts, Rep. Eiland was the force behind the funding of $150 million for the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston, $10.7 million for Texas A&M Galveston and funding for the University of the Mainland and Galveston College.
