Last Higher Ed Coordinating Board Meeting

The going-away party continued today for Commissioner Raymund Paredes at his final regular meeting of the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board.  After 15 years, he intends to retire on August 31.  During comments, Paredes listed several important developments during those years: TEXAS Grant, improvements to developmental education, Pre-K and full-time Kindergarten enhancements, early reading intervention and of course the two strategic plans.  He particularly noted UT-Austin’s recent announcement of significant increases in student financial aid.

A theme of the meeting was future workforce development and the importance of higher ed to be flexible about changing student needs.  The word tenure was mentioned, though in no specific context.
